Indoor and Outdoor Containers Services in Los Angeles, CA
After leaving the film business in 2015, I had to keep creating! I started making succulent arrangements using repurposed pots. Ten years later, my succulent arrangements continue to give me pure joy. They are beautiful, unpredictable plants if given sunlight and a bit of water. I often design containers for a client, come back to update their garden… the succulents have become exquisite little gardens living in their containers.
Designing with new or reimaged containers are an integral part of my landscape design projects, bringing into a garden another stream of beauty. Succulents, soft drought tolerant plants, and traditional annual plants, add warmth and lightness to hardscapes surrounding pools, jacuzzies, are perfect for decks, balconies, etc. More beauty, less water!
Designing Indoor Plants with a Purpose
Indoor plant designs must focus on complimenting interior spaces with an awareness that bringing nature inside should be intentional rather than decorative.
As a landscape designer, I pay attention to how natural light enters a space, and effects the health of a plant. While most indoor plants prefer to avoid sunlight, indoor plants can grow to love living in rooms with indirect light from a window or door they may respond to throughout the day. As with sustainable gardens, indoor plants evolve with the sun and the seasons. Indoor plant designs benefit from the same mind set, creating a design positioned on a table, or next to a window that feels dynamic rather than static, where every element earns its place.
It is important and interesting to watch how interior plants interact within a room. This includes ventilation patterns, moisture, other plants, how interior plants and materials respond to coastal conditions. Sustainable gardens and interior environments share the same foundation: thoughtful planning and respect for natural systems.
I love designing orchids for my clients and interior designers.
I explore working with various containers that allow me to arrange and juxtapose large, small, single, double stems, different species with unique shapes and colors within one plant! Many people tell me they kill their orchids. They do not, until they do! Most of us know when an orchid bloom disappears, it is not dead. Healthy green leaves are key for a second chance at another brilliant bloom. If we work together, I’m more than happy to share my successes and failures designing with orchids!
