Boulder Design in Los Angeles, CA
I frequently install boulders to create one or more centerpieces within a garden. I prefer granite rock as their surfaces tend to have fantastic character and wonderful markings that have been formed over time. We prefer to manually position them as to create as much height and elegance as possible, celebrating their remarkable resilience!
I choose boulders that weigh between 300 to 1,000 pounds, and granite is the most economical. I have created strategic boulder designs on hillsides, on very flat landscapes that welcome dimension, and I love using them for entrances to a property or a home.
What makes boulders work as a design are the plants and you design around them.
Boulders add structure, permanence, and unexpectedd character to most gardens. Thoughtfully integrated boulders create a sense of gravity, and establish a sense of scale that plants alone cannot achieve.
Whether incorporating into a new garden or placing within an existing yard, each stone is selected for its character and its ability to stand tall! Surrounding it with whimsical plants and necessary drip line, it naturally takes its proper place inside the garden.
The Benefits of Strategic Boulder Placement
Boulders provide both aesthetic and functional advantages. They help control erosion on slopes, assist with water direction during heavy rainfall, and create subtle elevation changes that add dimension to flat properties. In drought conscious landscapes, boulders enhance areas where planting is prohibitive due to lack of water. With proper installation and site planning, boulders become long lasting features that strengthen the overall composition and maturity of the landscape design.
